MOUNTAIN & CAVE RESCUE

MR_Logo.jpg

We are exceedingly fortunate in this country to have easy and free access to a number of amazing National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a huge variety of walking trails and bridle ways. We take it for granted that should we have an accident then the emergency services will come and rescue us and unlike in many other countries will do so at no cost.

However, the ambulance service only have the ability to recover people from the roadside and easy access pathways. Any location that is difficult to access will require the expert help of the unpaid volunteers of the Mountain Rescue.

For those intrepid enough to venture into any of the labyrinthine cave systems in the UK then the only option in the event of an accident is to call on the specialists in Cave Rescue.

I have been lucky to have been a member of both these organisations for more than 20 years and have had the opportunity to hone my rescue and medical skills alongside some of the best in the country.

CAVING AND POTHOLING - Richard Hudson

As well as carrying out industrial climbing both in training venues and on most types of work site I've also been actively caving for over 30 years. Unlike climbers who for the most part use ropes to protect themselves in the event of a fall, cavers actively use ropes to support themselves whilst exploring deep shafts and pots.
Many of the techniques used in the industry have come directly from the methods pioneered by cave explorers. Cave rescue techniques, honed and perfected in some of the most demanding locations in the world have found there way into the training syllabus of many Work at Height courses.
Alongside the work I do within the Rope Access Industry I'm also the Underground Leader for the local cave rescue team, part of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Associatoin (UWFRA), themselves an active member of MREW (Mountain Rescue England & Wales).  If you want to know more about this specialist area then please feel free to have a chat either during a course or via any of the advertised contact methods.
